Greeley’s 2012 Cinco de Mayo Festivities

Cinco de Mayo is always big deal in Greeley obviously due to the large number of Latinos in the community. But, because Cinco de Mayo isn't always on the weekend and isn't an American federal holiday it often lands on a day when most people have to work. This year is different. Cinco de Mayo is on Saturday, and that is cause for celebration. Maybe the biggest celebrations Greeley has seen. 

"It's three times as big as we've had in the past," said Debi Brilla, president of the Latino Chamber of Northern Colorado, which is hosting the event.

The festivities all begin Saturday morning with a parade starting at the intersection of 14th Avenue and 8th Street and making a path toward the Island Grove Events Center at 425 N. 15th Ave.. Entertainment for the rest of the free event will include a jalapeno eating contest, car show, kids area, live music, dance and a variety of authentic Latino cuisine.

While this event will be one of the largest the chamber has ever had, Brilla said they see it as another building block for the event that will continue its growth in 2013 and in the years to come.
