The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Regional Air Quality Council have issued an OZONE ACTION DAY ALERT alert for today, saying ozone levels are forecast to be at a moderate to unhealthy range for sensitive groups.

A combination of natural ozone from the stratosphere and human caused ozone is expected to lead to Moderate to Unhealthy-for-Sensitive-Groups on Wednesday. The ozone was expected to be in the Good-to-Moderate range yesterday, but in the Moderate to Unhealthy-for-Sensitive-Groups range Today. Active children, active adults, the elderly and those with lung disease should reduce prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion on Wednesday. Higher concentrations will start after midnight in the foothills and higher terrain and after noon on the plains on Wednesday, especially in areas not affected by thunderstorms.

This Ozone Action Day Alert will remain in effect until at least 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012.
