Most of us have lived in Colorado long enough to be able to adjust from 80 degree temps within the last week to the snow we are expected to get over the next few days, but a little reminder never hurt. Here is a list of stuff you may forget that will help make a day in the snow a winter wonderland rather than a winter nightmare.

During the summer months we have forgotten a thing or two about what it's like to have snow, and we may have forgotten a thing or two that will make the day easier too.

  • Inside the car you will want to make sure you have an ice scraper and brush to clean off the windshield. For light rear ended two-wheel-drive vehicles, extra weight in the back, such as sandbags can be a very helpful item. You will also want to check your antifreeze, and make sure your tires are filled properly.
  • In the house, it is always good to check that all your heating items such as the furnace and hot water heater are working correctly before it gets brutally cold. You may also want to locate the snow shovel now rather than having to climb in the freezing attic when it actually snows.
  • Finally, don't forget to dress warm and give yourself a few extra minutes to get where you are going.

I know all these reminders seem to be basic, but remember, it has been eight months since we have seen snow, and it is easy to forget the simple stuff. Being extra prepared is always better than being stuck in the cold.
