Xcel Energy is warning it’s customers about people acting as company representatives to illegally get credit card information from the elderly.  The company says that fake customer service agents are calling actual customers and telling them they forgot to sign their payment check and that they need a credit card number to pay the account.

“Investigators have not determined how many customers have been contacted by the bogus company but speculate that seniors may be a primary target because of their propensity to make payments by check,” Xcel said in a statement.
